Stereolithography (SLA) was the first 3D printing technology and is still important for parts that need high accuracy and smooth surfaces.

Importance

• High resolution: layers of 25 to 100 microns and fine details.
• Excellent surface finish: little post-processing needed for visual parts.
• Accuracy: typical tolerance about 0.1 mm, good for fit checks.
• Variety of resins: clear, tough, flexible, castable, biocompatible, high-temperature.
• Isotropic, watertight parts suitable for fluidics.
• Complex geometry in fine features.
