Short Note: AML Programming

AML (A Manufacturing Language) was developed by IBM for its industrial robots (e.g. IBM 7565). It is a high-level, structured, robot-level language with a syntax close to a conventional programming language.

  • Supports subroutines, variables, arrays, control structures and string handling.
  • Provides motion commands such as MOVE, with joints and positions specified in arrays.
  • Includes I/O, sensor and vision interfacing for assembly tasks.
  • Allows users to build their own higher-level robot commands, so it is extensible.
SUBR(PICK);
  MOVE(<1,2,3>, <100,50,20>);
  GRASP(10);
END;

Exam tip
