Alpha & beta testing

Worked SolutionAI Assisted

Alpha and Beta Testing

Both are forms of acceptance testing done before a product's final release.

Alpha testing

  • Performed in-house at the developer's site, in a controlled environment, by the development/QA team or internal users.
  • Done before beta testing, when the product is nearly complete.
  • Uses both white-box and black-box techniques; defects are fixed immediately.
  • Goal: find major bugs and crashes early.

Beta testing

  • Performed at the customer's site, in the real environment, by a limited group of real end users.
  • Done after alpha testing, just before public release.
  • Mainly black-box; the developer is not present.
  • Users report bugs, usability problems and compatibility issues.
  • Goal: validate the product under real conditions and gather feedback.
  • Example: pre-release app versions offered to a small group of users.
