Trade Union - Definition (2 Marks)

As per Trade Union Act, 1926 and OB/HRM view:

A Trade Union is a voluntary, organized association of workers (or employers) formed collectively to protect and promote common interests of its members through collective action, collective bargaining with management, regarding wages, working conditions, job security, welfare and grievances.

Key elements:

• Continuous association, legal entity
• Common economic & occupational interests
• Aim - improve economic, social status, bargaining power vs. employer
• Examples: AITUC, INTUC, BMS in India

Objectives: Fair wages, better conditions, participation in management, social welfare, unity.
