Human Resource Planning (HRP) / Manpower Planning is the systematic and continuous process of forecasting future demand & supply of HR and planning to ensure that the organisation has right number and right kind of people at right place at right time, at optimum cost, to achieve organizational objectives.

Definitions:

• Coleman: “Process of determining manpower requirements and means for meeting those requirements.”
• Stainer: “Strategy for acquisition, utilisation, improvement and preservation of enterprise’s HR.”

Nature: Future-oriented, continuous, integral to strategic planning, quantitative & qualitative.

Objective: Bridge gap between HR demand-supply, avoid shortages/surplus, control labour cost.
