Job Satisfaction - Explanation (2 Marks)

Job Satisfaction is the positive emotional state / attitude of an employee resulting from appraisal of job experiences and degree to which job fulfils his needs/values. (Locke, 1976)

As per spector: Extent to which people like or dislike their job.

Key aspects:

• Attitudinal: Affective (liking) + Cognitive evaluation
• Multidimensional - satisfaction with: Work itself, Pay, Promotion, Supervision, Co-workers, Conditions (JDI/MSQ facets)
• Determinants: Personality, work values, compensation, job design, leadership, work environment.

Types: Intrinsic (work content) vs Extrinsic (pay, conditions)

Measurement: Questionnaires (Minnesota Satisfaction Questionnaire), Job Descriptive Index, interviews.

High satisfaction → low turnover, higher OCB & morale; needs continuous monitoring.
