Physical Facility
1. What Physical Facility Is
Physical facility = material things required to keep the Body healthy and to fulfil other needs of living (food, clothing, shelter, instruments, transportation, books). It includes quantity and quality that can be assessed.
- For the Body: nutritious food, air, water, shelter, clothing, medical care, exercise, rest.
- For living: tools, machines, electricity, internet — instruments to produce and maintain facility and to express relationships.
2. Characteristics (exam table)
| Aspect | Details |
|---|---|
| Limited in quantity | Need is definite and can be quantified (e.g., 2 kg wheat/day for family, one room) |
| Required in quality | Should be hygienic, not harmful (e.g., nutritious, not junk) |
| Need is for Body | Self needs happiness, respect, not facility directly |
| More is not better beyond required | Excess beyond required becomes waste / burden and does not increase happiness |
3. Right Evaluation of Facility (link to prosperity)
Without right understanding, people over-evaluate facility (want unlimited), leading to accumulation, competition, exploitation of nature. With right understanding, need is rightly assessed as limited, so prosperity is achievable.
4. Worked Checks
Facility need check: Do I need 5 phones? One functional phone that allows communication suffices; others are wealth, not need, and create maintenance burden.
Body need: Need for food is limited per day; eating beyond need harms body.
Instrument need: Need for lab equipment is for learning; right quality matters more than quantity.
5. Exam Points
- Define physical facility and its categories — 3-5 marks, very frequent.
- State facility need is limited and quantifiable vs happiness need continuous — 5 marks, very frequent (the most common facility question).
- Give examples of over-evaluation — 3 marks.
