Values in human-human relationship
1. What Values Mean in Relationship
Values in human-human relationship = feelings that naturally arise when relationship is understood as Self-Self with right evaluation. There are nine values proposed (to be verified via natural acceptance):
- Trust (Vishwas) — founding value — clarity that other's intention is to make me happy, though competence may be lacking.
- Respect (Samman) — right evaluation (correctly assessing the other Self, not over/under, not on body/post).
- Affection (Sneh) — feeling of being related, accepting the other as related.
- Care (Mamata) — feeling of responsibility for nurturing body of the related one.
- Guidance (Vatsalya) — ensuring right understanding in the other.
- Reverence (Shraddha) — acceptance of excellence in the other.
- Glory (Gaurav) — making effort for excellence in self.
- Gratitude (Kritagyata) — acceptance of help received with honour.
- Love (Prem) — complete value — being related to all, the feeling of being related to every human (and beyond).
2. Sequence and Completeness
Values are shown as sequence: Trust → Respect → ... → Love, where earlier are basic, later build on them. Love is the complete value that includes all previous and expands to all.
3. Key Distinctions
- Trust vs belief: Trust is about intention (always to be happy), not competence (may be mistake). Mistaking competence for intention causes doubt.
- Respect vs differentiation: Respect is right evaluation, not over-evaluation (flattery) or under-evaluation (disrespect), and not on body/post/wealth.
- Affection vs care/guidance: Affection is unconditional acceptance as related; care and guidance are expressions.
4. Worked Checks
Do I naturally accept trust as: "Other's intention is like mine — to be happy"? Yes → verify.
Do I want respect as being evaluated correctly (neither more nor less)? Yes.
Check affection: Do I naturally accept being related to family? Yes.
5. Exam Points
- List nine values (trust to love) with one-line meaning — 7-10 marks, very frequent (the most common values question).
- Define trust as intention vs competence and respect as right evaluation — 5-7 marks, very frequent.
- Show sequence and love as complete value — 5 marks, frequent.
- Give illustration for each — 5 marks, frequent (often asked to elaborate two values).
